2017 marks the twentieth anniversary for Jane Corbett’s love affair with millinery. Having studied Fine Art at Newcastle, Jane took to millinery after many years working in the arts and chose to train under the expert eye of the Queen Mother’s milliner, Rose Cory.
She has always said that the moment she walked into Rose’s workroom, she knew that millinery was for her, the perfect combination of sculpture, textiles, stitching and 3 dimensional art and design. Twenty years later Jane still uses Rose as a benchmark, and judges her own work by her mentor’s high standards.
Jane went on to set up her own business – Jane Corbett, Couture Milliner – and built up a reputation for her outstanding work. Clients included HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and Mrs Carole Middleton.
Jane Corbett, has twenty years’ experience in the field and is renowned for her expert skills, eye for clean design and exquisite detail. The combination of traditional techniques and a very personal design style, makes her stand out amongst her peers and clients have travelled far and wide for her hats. Jane sees her hats as pieces of art, finding inspiration everywhere: shells, Japanese silks and vintage costume, but ultimately it is about creating hats that make the women who wear them feel fabulous and confident whatever the occasion!
Jane’s hats can be found in Harrods, Hello’s list of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge’s ‘Most stylish hats to do date’, The Royal Enclosure, Ascot.
However, it is her love and passion for millinery, her exemplary sewing skills and unique designs, which makes her a leader in the field and for the first time clients have the opportunity to purchase ‘One Off’ pieces online.
“Everyone deserves to feel good about what they do, it is about quality of life as well as quality of craftsmanship that marks us out, caring for our team as well as caring for our clients!” Jane
To mark her twentieth anniversary, Jane Corbett Millinery Ltd. has a new team.
Jane Corbett is a local company, with Jane heading up the workshop, and local milliners Michelle Boyt and Victoria Frost as part of her sterling team.
The behind the scenes team are also local and has grown organically with Jane, Adrian and Steph having known each other for over 10 years.
Our fabulous and talented photographer Giles Penfound and Jane have worked creatively together for many years. Giles is a renowned photographer who documented British Operations for the Army and since leaving has worked for the National Maritime and British Museum.
A new addition to the team is local web designer James Middleton.
We are a tight knit group of expertise, deliberately drawn from the local area, because we believe in supporting other local businesses and it allows the team to have those all-important design and planning meetings over coffee rather than the internet!
We have a strong work ethic, part of that is allowing us all flexible working hours, because we feel that quality, creative work comes from a good work life balance and happy employees. It’s not rocket science, but it is about providing a happy work environment and a personal consideration to all staff as well as clients.
